The delivery of vital flight information to air navigation service providers (ANSPs) often takes time – unnecessary time in fact.

Legacy Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network (AFTN) systems were introduced in the 1970s for the exchange of essential messaging for aircraft operations with fixed aeronautical stations. But this presents limitations in today’s data-rich operational environment.

SITA adopted the new ICAO standard for ground-to-ground communication after its introduction in 2005. It delivered several enhancements for airlines, airports and ground handlers to exchange with air navigation service providers the many messages involved in day-to-day flight operations.

But herein lies the problem. The confluence of two messaging systems is now evident, with latest ATS AMHS technology mixing with legacy systems in different markets globally. This adds unnecessary complexity, especially when time is of the essence for transmitting urgent flight safety, meteorological, aeronautical and even distress messages. The complexity of dealing with two systems simply leads to delays in air navigation.

SITA ATC Connect is the innovative solution to resolve this problem, a messaging platform for sharing flight information quickly and securely worldwide, no matter the messaging delivery mechanism.

By automatically adapting to different modern and legacy systems used by air navigation communities worldwide, SITA ATC Connect is a 21st Century messaging solution that improves efficiency and helps to ensure reliable flight on-time operations.

It provides streamlined communication for the exchange of data, to ensure flight operations run as smoothly and efficiently as possible. With full inter-operability, it enables service providers to share large file messages and images with enhanced features for rich data exchange.

The platform also provides a single, easy-to-use global solution for airlines, airports and ground handlers to exchange their flight plans with ANSPs, receive NOTAMs (Notices to Airmen) that alert pilots of potential hazards along a route or at a location that could affect their flight, and exchange other essential advisories.

By providing direct access to the AMHS for a single point of transmission of flight plans and meteorological data, the solution eludes intermediaries to quickly secure real-time acknowledgements and responses.

SITA ATC Connect: delivering uninterrupted flight information quickly and securely worldwide, no matter the messaging technology for ground-to-ground communication.
